Women at the helm of Congress in Mumbai

Smita Thackeray, Bal Thackeray's 48-year-old daughter-in-law, has suddenly announced her decision to join Sonia Gandhi's Congress party.

The reasons for Smita's decision are two. One, she feels the Shiv Sena is being unfair to Maharashtrians with its parochial and divisive politics and two, she was being systematically marginalised by powerful elements in the Thackeray household.

If you remember , Kunika Lall had filed a petition against the shiv sena supremo. ON Smita joining congress, Kunika says " her joining congress is a very welcome move, it will add impetus to our marathi votebank hopefully.

Regarding her entry , affecting my position in the party, I dont think that will affect me at all. I have my own agenda and she has her own. The only similarity is that we are women and we both want to make a difference in a positive way.

Will she be accomodated with a post in the party,? well wrong person to ask, because I never really needed a post or asked for one, "main toh sirf karm karne mein wishvas rakhti hoon." maybe its not the correct approach, we'll wait and watch this aspect as well.

Besides i'm still trying to understand politics, the social worker/activist in me is trying to balance both all the time "

  2. She is ambitious and oppertunist. Though so, this is a very good news and shows how shallow shiv sena has become over the years. I am willing to hope that she will do some constructive poltics now.. T. Balu has got sena converted in a proprierty company.. He will go to any extent for the power.. It was nephew earlier and now daughter in law.. Two great tight slaps on T Balu's face!! Though so, more needed!

  3. Dearest KunikaJi,

Though, the Chairperson of Congress can decide whom to take into the party and whom not to. But, be careful about this lady. She hd clearly mentioned that she is quiting Shiv Sena, because she hadnt given a ticket as promised by Mr Bal. What does that mean, she is power mongry, right? If she can quit the Shiv Sena, to which she was a family part, and if Congress not giving a ticket to her in the next election, then she might quit Congress too. let her work for the congress for another FIVE years sincerely, then the cong. leadership can consider giving her a ticket. I know though this is the most unlikely think, as cong need somebody in Maha to rein in the Shiv Sena as well as mr Pawar.....

  4. Hello Kunika,

I am a very big fan of yours and I think you are the most sexy and beautiful women in bollywood.

I think this is a very thoughtful Family move. BJP is loosing ground in maharashtra, shiv-sena to MNS is also loosing very fast. Now the only option to survive in politics is to join Congress. And other members of the family cannot do that because they will loose all the votes for changing their policy. And the only eligible and capable member left with the family is smita, a well known figure due to her strong links with the film industry. I think its like supporting the family in dire need.
